Ed Axtell- An Interview With

Ed Axtell and aspiring folk musician “who stumbled into music”, talks to the J Word.

Both Ed and his personal and high energy folk music baffle delightfully. What’s with the duck Ed?

The duck is so I’m not just that guy with a guitar, I’m that guy with the guitar and the duck.”

Ed’s wit and relaxed sense of self, is a welcome change to the gig circuit, wrapping up the audience in his personal and musical charm, then bringing in the changes, with uptempo or indie angst.

Ed started focussing on his music when he was 14 years old at his local church in Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire. Not until Ed was in the midst of deciding his University choices did he realise that he wanted to pursue his career in music, he was torn between music and psychology and he made the decision to do something that he loved and his reason for it was so honest and true, “I want to be smiling whilst I do it, rather than fed up of unsatisfied with my career”, he told me when he knew that music was going to be the future career for him. Once he had his mind set on this Ed is now in his second year at Bath Spa University studying Commercial Music.

He’s had 1,000 streams on SoundCloud and is working in the studio on his first EP. When you listen from his first track to his most recent creations, you can hear such a positive change in his voice and in his music,  “my songs make the audience get caught up in a cloud of happiness I hope. I’m changing the world, one song at a time.” Ed’s music has always been captivating and the audience has been lost for words. Ed is currently working on a brand for his music and he is saying once he has it sorted it will enable him to get more prominent gigs and he is finally seeing what he can achieve, through his music.

Ed is currently planning a tour in the summer but the plans are all very up in the air and he is yet to decide where he wants to go but he has said we should all be eager to wait for his final decision. He has played numerous shows in London and in Bath, whether it is shown that he has put on for himself or others you will always be in for a treat.

Ed has a very bright future and he has so many opportunities that he has just taken with full stride and given it a go. When watching Ed perform you have to be able to get lost in the music and you have to remember that he isn’t that guy with the guitar he is that guy with the guitar and the duck, but what is the name of the duck?
